LASIK vision correction utilizes an excimer computer-guided
laser to sculpt cornea. The excimer laser acts as a molecular
scalpel, removing electrons from tissue, without damaging
adjacent cells.
To promote
faster healing and quicker visual rehabilitation a hinged
corneal flap is created by a microkeratome before the excimer
laser is applied through an operating microscope. After reshaping
the cornea, the flap is repositioned and stabilizes without
sutures in several minutes.new
